Pruning plants and shrubs
A very important part of gardening is pruning your plants, shrubs and climbers. Once pruned not only will the plants health improve but also the shape will be easier to manage and new growth production of flowers or fruit will be encouraged.
The process involves dead heading flowers, removing dead wood from shrubs or trees at the same time cutting out diseased and damaged branches.
The tools required for pruning shrubs are secateurs, loppers and saws, without doubt the tools must be clean and sharp to prevent disease and damage.

We lightly pruned this Wisteria cutting out long whippy shoots as a result the flowers could be seen.
Pruning this cornus dogwood hedging in early winter, removing dead wood and damaged branches for the purpose of striking winter colour.
Cutting back lavender using secateurs in order to make more room along the pathway for passing pedestrians.
Unlike using a hedge trimmer we took this lavender back from the path edge with hand tools cutting with attention to detail.
